The Surf City Half Marathon is an award-winning course, considered one of the best half marathon courses in the country. It is well known for being scenic and flat. Runners come from all over to experience this exhilarating run. It starts along Pacific Coast Highway and passes by the famous Huntington Beach pier. Runners enjoy the beauty of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands as they start their turn, and then kick it up a notch for the crowds at Main Street on their way to a monumental finish line moment. This was certainly the experience for OCBF’s own board member Maria Stearns and her mother (tackling her very first half marathon at 68 years old!). For last year’s U.S. Bank OC Marathon, Maria ran her first full marathon and was OCBF’s top fundraiser, raising over $7,000. She is now gearing up for the 2016 OC Half Marathon on May 1, as well as her first international run at the Nike Women’s Half Marathon on April 23, both in support of OCBF. The Nike Women’s Half Marathon course is particularly challenging in that it takes place in Mexico City, one of the highest elevation cities in the world, at 7,349 feet! We are so grateful to Maria for once again devoting her energies to benefit the programs of the Foundation. Run, Maria, run!
