OCBF Higher Education Mentoring Program Class of 2017 Graduation
On May 11, 2017, OCBF celebrated the graduation of the 16th class of students successfully completing the Higher Education Mentoring Program and taking the road to college. The program provided college preparation services to twenty-one high school graduates from high schools throughout Santa Ana over a period of 18 months. OCBF is proud to send each and every student off to college with a $1000+ scholarship and college starter kits – a large laundry basket stuffed with dorm bedding and supplies and backpacks complete with educational supplies – generously donated by Suavecito, Eddie Quillares of State Farm, and Jim and Linda Skorheim.

2016 Annual Meeting & Society of Fellows Recognition Reception
OCBF’s 2016 Annual Meeting and Society of Fellows Recognition Reception was held on Thursday, December 8, at First American Financial Corporation. It was a great turnout and a wonderful evening for friends and supporters. Judge David O. Carter represented OCBF with pride as master of ceremonies. The event offered an opportunity to reflect on 2016 and recognize the donors, agencies, businesses, and volunteers that make our work possible and successful.

A Collaboration with The Melinda Hoag Smith Center for Healthy Living
OCBF is proud to announce the expansion of its programs to The Melinda Hoag Smith Center for Healthy Living, Newport Beach. The center has welcomed nonprofits to use their facilities to bring services to the Hoag community and surrounding cities. We currently offer the Madres Unidas women’s health program and the SHORTSTOP and STOP SHORT of Addiction diversion programs on-site at Hoag. Michaell Rose, LCSW, Director of Operations of Community Health, has organized the collaboration; we are extremely grateful for her support and dedication to the Foundation.

Update: Catching up with Board Member Maria Stearns
The following is an update to our February 28 post regarding OCBF board member Maria Stearns' latest fundraising efforts. Notwithstanding a significant injury, Maria successfully completed the Nike Women's Mexico City Half Marathon, yet another achievement in her race to raise funds benefiting the programs of the Orange County Bar Foundation. Thanks again, Maria, for your continued support!

Project SELF Summer Learning
In July, this year’s Project SELF interns were invited to UC Irvine School of Law to learn what it takes to be admitted into college and law school. The group toured the campus and heard remarks from Dean Erwin Chemerinsky, a panel of young lawyers, and a panel of current UCI law students.
The next Project SELF field trip will give students the opportunity to visit the 4th District Court of Appeal in Santa Ana, where they will learn about the justice system and working in the courts from the firsthand experiences of the justices and staff.

2nd Annual Game Day Fiesta
On January 10, 2015, the OCBF Associate Board hosted the second annual Game Day Fiesta Fundraiser to benefit the Foundation’s Higher Education Mentoring Program, supporting students’ pursuit of higher education.
