The Orange County Bar Foundation Associate Board is a volunteer group of successful, socially conscious, and motivated young professionals in their 20’s and 30’s, who support the mission of the Foundation.
The Associate Board provides support by building awareness in the community about the programs of the Foundation and raises funds by holding several fundraisers a year. The Orange County Bar Foundation Associate Board introduces young professionals to the varied programs and works of the Foundation. Through volunteer activities, social events and networking opportunities, the Associate Board assists in the cultivation of the next generation of leaders committed to the Orange County Bar Foundation and serving those in need in our community.
Associate Board President’s Message
I am extremely proud and humbled to have the opportunity to serve as the president of the Orange County Bar Foundation Associate Board for 2017. I first became involved with the Foundation as a summer intern in 2003. I was able to witness first-hand the impact that the Foundation’s many programs had on those individuals and families in our community that needed it most. My passion for the Foundation has increased exponentially over the last 13 years due to my continued involvement in various capacities.
The Orange County Bar Foundation has been, and continues to be, devoutly dedicated to providing our community’s underprivileged youth with opportunities that many, if not all, would not ordinarily experience. I am proud to say that I was a mentor for the Foundation’s Higher Education Mentoring Program in the first year that young men were invited to participate, and I continue to be a mentor today. I have had the fortunate opportunity to see the benefits this program has bestowed on its many graduates. I have also had the advantage of observing high school students participate in the Foundation’s Project SELF program, which provides summer internships with law firms and other professional organizations. The experience provided by this program has had tremendous results, with many former participants becoming employed in various professional capacities. Finally, the Foundation’s flagship youth crime diversion program, SHORTSTOP, has been serving our community’s juvenile offenders and their families since 1980. Last year alone, SHORTSTOP served 299 youth and 366 family members. Moreover, throughout the period 2012-2014, roughly 94% of youth participants (both in the English and Spanish programs) who successfully completed the program did not reoffend within the first year. I highly encourage all to attend a SHORTSTOP program session to see how powerful and important this program is for the youth in our community.
On behalf of the Associate Board, I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to the amazing staff and team members of the Foundation, the Board of Directors, and most importantly, to all the generous supporters and donors of the Foundation who have invested substantial time, effort, and funds to make the Foundation’s ongoing efforts possible. I look forward to another great year, and hope to see you all at our various events this coming year.
